Europlaz, a trusted UK contract manufacturer specialising in medical device cleanroom manufacturing, has completed a major expansion of its production facilities. With a £200,000 investment, the company has added 200m² of ISO Class 7 cleanroom space at its Southminster, Essex site. This development not only meets the requirements of a newly secured medical contract but also unlocks fresh capacity for future growth.
Supporting Strategic Growth in the Medtech Sector
The cleanroom expansion marks a pivotal moment in Europlaz’s growth strategy. The facility now has the infrastructure to support up to four new injection moulding machines and dedicated assembly lines within ISO Class 7 cleanroom conditions. These upgrades ensure compliance with international cleanliness standards required for Class I, II and III medical device manufacturing.
This investment is part of a wider £4 million infrastructure programme aimed at scaling Europlaz’s services, embracing innovation, and reinforcing its reputation as a reliable partner in medical device cleanroom manufacturing.
“This is a very timely development that allows us to grow with increasing customer volumes and, importantly, take advantage of more European and US clients looking to reshore projects from the Far East,” said Rory O’Keeffe, Commercial Director at Europlaz.
“Two injection moulding machines are already installed and producing components for Olympus, demonstrating how quickly this capacity can be brought online to serve real-world needs.”
Why Cleanroom Manufacturing Matters
Cleanroom environments are essential to the safe and effective production of critical medical devices. Europlaz’s newly expanded cleanroom, certified to ISO Class 7, provides strict particulate and microbial control – ensuring the highest standards of product integrity and patient safety.
This upgrade reflects Europlaz’s commitment to staying ahead of regulatory requirements and client expectations in medical device cleanroom manufacturing. The expanded area supports both prototyping and volume production, enabling rapid scaling for new product introductions (NPIs) and ongoing product runs.
Olympus Collaboration Highlights Technical Strength
One of the first projects to benefit from the upgraded facility is a new partnership with Olympus, a global leader in medical optics and devices. Europlaz has been selected to manufacture components for the ENDOCUFF VISION™, an advanced colonoscopy device designed to enhance adenoma detection by up to 11%.
This technology has the potential to significantly improve early detection of colorectal abnormalities. For every 1,000 patients screened, as many as 110 additional cases of adenomas may be identified using the device.
Europlaz’s role in this process includes two-stage injection moulding (an initial moulding shot followed by overmoulding) for four distinct product variants. These components are being produced for the UK, EU, and international markets—showcasing the company’s ability to support complex, high-precision manufacturing at scale.
A Broader Commitment to Innovation in Healthcare
The Olympus collaboration is just one of many examples of how Europlaz supports the commercialisation of cutting-edge healthcare technologies. As an ISO 13485-certified facility, the company offers full-service contract manufacturing for:
-
Class I, II, and III medical devices
-
Drug delivery systems
-
Diagnostic products
-
Wearables and patient-centric technologies
Recent success stories include a patient-friendly, breath-operated inhaler, a compact home dialysis machine, and a bio-artificial liver system – each one produced in Europlaz’s tightly controlled cleanroom environments.
This latest expansion underscores the company’s long-term vision: to be the go-to partner for medical device cleanroom manufacturing, offering speed, precision, and regulatory confidence.
