A new dialysis machine could allow patients with kidney disease to have the treatment at home. The equipment has cost around £40m and is being trialled after 10 years of research.

Home dialysis partnership

Europlaz has partnered with Quanta Dialysis Technologies (Quanta) since the beginning of their journey and exclusively manufacture consumables for their ground-breaking, compact, cartridge-based haemodialysis system called SC+.

SC+ is a small and simple-to-use home dialysis system. SC+ provides greater flexibility around where, when and how we deliver life-sustaining therapies. As a medical device with a CE mark, alongside the NHS, we are able to successfully pilot the SC+. This allows SC+ to be commercially available in the UK, for use in the home, dialysis clinics and hospitals.

The manufacturing development of SC+ has been a true partnership. Whilst Quanta owns the machine, designed it and is responsible for the technology, our role has been to manufacture the high-quality consumables required to connect SC+ to the patient. We specialise in manufacturing single-use plastic components for medical devices and Quanta chose to work with us for this reason, as well as for our technical expertise in injection moulding and heat welding and our ability to manufacture highly complex medical devices in certified cleanroom settings.

Europlaz and Quanta Dialysis working together

John E. Milad, CEO of Quanta Dialysis Technologies, states: “As we put in place final preparations ahead of the commercialisation of SC+ this year. We have been working hard to secure and scale-up our supply chain. We look forward to continuing our work with Europlaz as we enter the next exciting phase of our mission, which is to improve the lives of dialysis patients.”

Eddie O’Keeffe, Chairman of Europlaz Technologies, say “It is a delight that we are able to work with Quanta on their state-of-the-art haemodialysis machine. This advancement in treatment will change the lives of people faced with having to undergo dialysis. I am extremely proud of the work to which the team at Europlaz have contributed. The team has helped with the development and commercialisation of this equipment. We look forward to working with Quanta for many years to come as this ground-breaking product has worldwide potential.”
