Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Europlaz is committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.

All scopes have been calculated using the appropriate emissions conversion factors from  the Government conversion factors for company reporting of GHS emissions.

Emissions Reduction Targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.

Europlaz aim to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions to 138.4 by 2027. This will be a 20% reduction from our baseline year. We aim to reach this target through our already implemented and future carbon reduction initiatives.

Europlaz are signed up to the Climate Change Agreement (CCA) through the British Plastic Federation, requiring us to set targets across a two-year cycle for energy use and production output. Europlaz have been monitoring energy usage since 2019.

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

As part of our climate commitments, we have already implemented a wide range of initiatives and projects that have already helped reduce our carbon emissions.

  • Europlaz installed 885 solar panels since 2019 which now produce over 35% of our electricity.
  • Installed free to use electric vehicle charging points at our facility for staff and visitors.
  • Across 25,000sqft of our facility a new triple insulated roof has been installed which is expected to reduce heating requirements.
  • Through changing our energy suppliers, we have transitioned to sourcing 100% of our electrical energy from renewable sources.
  • Replaced old and inefficient lighting with LED’s including use of motion and daylight controls.
  • Improving our energy efficiency through implementing successful shutdown checklists and better switching off education to staff.
  • Through redirecting waste heat from air compressor exhaust to heat our packing area, we have significantly improved our heat efficiency.

Future Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following are our plans and initiatives for the next five years that will help drive down our emissions to our goal of net zero.

  • Aim for all company cars and transport vehicles to be electric by 2026 to eliminate all vehicle emissions in scope 1.
  • Continuously work to collect the highest quality, primary data on our emissions to aid in reduction and progress measurement.
  • Continue to reduce waste going to landfill and increase recycling, through posters and reminders to staff to minimise production of all types of waste and encourage reusing and recycling.
  • To implement carbon offsetting to at a minimum for all business travel.

Future Carbon Reduction Initiatives Continued

  • Establish a staff energy awareness programme raising awareness of environmental issues and promote good standard practice internally and externally through our stakeholders.
  • Conduct feasibility studies on additional renewable energy sources.
  • Improving our overall energy efficiency by better reporting and analysis of energy usage through energy maps and monthly targets.
  • Complete lifecycle studies on our products and our customers products.
  • Explore feasibility of bio-based plastics, which will reduce embedded carbon emissions in products and packaging.
